On Christmas Day

On Christmas Day, we had a wonderful opportunity to deliver our chocolate to over 200 new mothers in Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, Manila. There are more than 700 babies born from mothers in Tacloban; however they were not able to give their babies' breast milk as many of these mothers had PTSD (Post Traumatic Syndrome Disorder) caused by Typhoon Yolanda..

The mothers in JFMH volunteered to provide their own breast milk.The frozen milk was delivered to the babies in Tacloban since the catastrophe.

We were honored to give small Christmas gifts of Tsokofino chocolates to the mothers as a sign of gratitude on behalf of the Tacloban babies.

昨年のクリスマスはチョコフィーノにとって特別なクリスマスなりました。

あの巨大台風が襲ったタクロバン地方では12月だけでも700人のベイビーが生まれるのに、そのお母さん達は台風のショックでおっぱいが出ないのです。マニラにあるファベラ記念病院で出産したお母さん達がそのベイビーたちに母乳を提供することとなりました。

ドクターが母乳を確保、冷凍してタクロバンへの輸送作戦です。そのドクターのリクエストでそのファベラ病院のお母さん達にタクロバンの新生児に代わって感謝のチョコのクリスマスプレゼントをすることとなりました。

200人超えるお母さんたちに感謝を伝えると同時にお母さんたちの明るい笑顔にチョコフィーノはとても力を頂きました。

The pili nut (Canarium ovatum) is found only in the Philippines. The pili tree is strong against winds. Many pili trees are grown in the southwestern region of Bicol in Luzon island. It is in Bicol where the mountain with the perfect cone called Mayon Volcano, the lake with the world's smallest fish, hot springs, the gentle whale sharks, and center of extreme sports are located.

 

The tasty whitish nut is covered with a brown skin. When roasted, it has a mild, nutty flavor and tender-crispy texture. When eaten raw, the nut tastes like roasted pumpkin seeds. It is high in fat but it contains Omega-6 fatty acids found also in olive oil. This helps the body's immune functions, protecting it from various diseases, including cardiovascular diseases. What makes it unique is that it contains beta carotene, an antioxidant and source of vitamin A.

 

Thus, from the health standpoint, it has many of the benefits of other nuts. One serving (40 g) of pili nuts supplies 73% of the daily value intake of thiamin (based on a 2,000 calorie diet). While it is very low in cholesterol and sodium, it is a good source of magnesium and manganese, which are vital for healthy bones. Weight watchers need to take care though because of its high saturated fats content. Its protein content is almost complete. and it is also rich in minerals, which are significant in maintaining bone and muscles tissues, a good and strong heart and keeping the body functioning well.


ピリナッツ(Canarium ovatum) は世界でフィリピンだけで採れるフィリピン固有のナッツです。主にルソン島ビコール地方南西部、マヨン火山のふもとで収穫されます。その木は非常に強靭で台風にも倒されることがありません。

ナッツは茶色の薄皮で覆われています。煎ると、マイルドでやさしい風味と香りがします。生のままだとカボチャの種に似た味がします。

ピリはヘルシーな利点がたくさんあります。必須アミノ酸全てを含み、軽くひとつまみのピリ(40g)で必須アミノ酸のチアミン一日必要摂取量の1/4を摂ることができます。高脂質で飽和脂肪酸を多く含んでいるので、食べる量に注意が必要ですが、オリーブオイルにも含まれるオメガ6脂肪酸を含んでいますし、コレステロールが低い利点があります。消化をする上で解毒作用があり、骨の健康には欠かせないマグネシウムとマンガン、抗酸化作用を持つカロチンも含んでいます。ピリナッツを適量食べることで心臓疾患予防、免疫機能向上が期待できます。
